Blog Assignment One: Student Profile

Hey!  My name is Brittney Ainsworth.  I am from Magee, Mississippi.  I am a sophomore at The University of Southern Mississippi.  While at Southern Miss, I am majoring in Elementary education with an endorsement in math.  I plan to graduate in May of 2013, and teach kindergarten, first, or second grade at an undecided school somewhere near my hometown.
Throughout my life, writing essays and things such as that, I have always done very well.  I have never had a bad experience with writing.  I am a very organized person, and I like things to have an order about them, so for that reason, my favorite type of essay would be a five paragraph essay.  I really like five paragraph essays because it is a very structured essay.  I can choose a topic and include three specific points to talk about within the essay.  The bad thing about these types of essays is that they are easy to write and do not give one a broad topic to discuss many things.  When I first came to Southern Miss, it was very hard to not be able to write a five paragraph essay because the teachers wanted the essay to include a broad range of information.  Since I am only a sophomore in college, I have not had to write a paper specifically dealing with my major.  The only professional document that I have written in the past was an essay to receive a scholarship.  I have written a public document for an audience to read while I was in high school.  Through that essay, I received a money award
I have had times when writing “broke down” for me.  The reason I believe writing sometimes fails as a way of communication is because a person’s words are not fully explained.  The times that writing “broke down” for me was when I did not fully explain myself, and it made the essay very confusing for one to read.  When I fully understand the topic of the essay, it is easier for me to fully explain myself throughout the essay.
Throughout this semester, I hope to receive an “A.”  I really want to do very well.  Most importantly, I hope to learn to be an even better writer.  I believe that I am a very good writer, but I know there are areas of my writing that I need to improve.  I do not have any troubles or concerns as of right now with this class.  I am very excited to see how my writing improves throughout this semester.
